Spring Equinox & Lambing Season: A Time of Renewal on the Ériu Farm

As we celebrate the First Day of Spring and the Spring Equinox we see the beginning of the days growing longer, a quiet shift takes place on our Ériu farm. The land is awakening from its winter slumber, stretching toward the light, and with it comes a season of renewal, birth, and balance. This is the time of lambing season, one of the most important and cherished moments in the farming year—a time that reminds us why we do what we do.

A Season of Balance and Growth

The Spring Equinox is a sacred turning point in the calendar, when day and night stand in perfect balance before the light takes hold and carries us toward summer. It is a moment of transition, marking the earth’s shift toward warmth, abundance, and new life. On our farm, we feel this change in the softening of the earth, the fresh shoots of green pushing through the soil, and the return of birdsong at dawn.

And today, in perfect harmony with the turning of the seasons, we welcome our first set of twin lambs—two strong and healthy Romney lambs, born on the very first day of spring. These are the first of many to come from our flock of Bluefaced Leicester and Romney sheep here at Ériu, each one a living testament to the resilience and beauty of Irish wool.

Lambing season is both beautiful and demanding, requiring round-the-clock care, gentle hands, and watchful eyes. It is a time of patience and devotion, of quiet moments spent in the lambing shed, listening for the first bleat of new life. As the days brighten, so too does our farm, filled with the sounds of tiny hooves on fresh straw and the soft murmurs of ewes calling their young.

These new arrivals are more than just the next generation of our flock; they are part of an ancient rhythm that has guided shepherds for generations. And as we step forward into spring, we are reminded once again of the deep connection between the land, the seasons, and the life we nurture here at Ériu.

The Connection Between Land, Wool, and Tradition

At Ériu, we believe that nature sets the rhythm, and we follow its lead. The wool our sheep produce is part of this cycle, a gift from the land that has sustained us for centuries. Just as our ancestors once gathered to spin, weave, and dye wool using the natural bounty of Ireland, we continue that tradition today—crafting 100% sustainably sourced Irish wool into garments that carry the heart of the land and the care of the hands that make them.

Our wool is more than a material; it is a story of resilience, renewal, and respect for nature. Each of our Ériu pieces, from our Sovereignty Shawl to our Tara Woven Cape, holds the warmth of tradition and the promise of a season that celebrates new life and new beginnings.

Stepping into Spring

As we move further into spring, we embrace the longer days, the fresh energy of the season, and the joy of seeing our lambs grow strong. It is a reminder that every stitch, every thread, and every carefully crafted garment is part of something much bigger—a cycle that has sustained Ireland’s land and people for centuries.

So as the light returns, may we all take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the changing seasons, the gifts of the earth, and the warmth of things made with care.

From all of us at Ériu, we welcome you into this season of renewal, light, and possibility.
