I’ve always had a good interest in sheep!

“What’s not to love about farming on the side of a hill in Donegal, good for the heart and soul.” Chris is a 5th generation farmer with 12 Bluefaced Leicister ewes and he also farms 200 Lanark breeding ewes.

“As a family we absolutely love lambing season. The children adore looking after them and look forward to having a pet lamb to mind. My husband is a 6th generation farmer”

John breeds pedigree Bluefaced Leicester, Suffolk and Texel sheep at the most northerly point in Ireland Malin Head.

“What I love about farming is that no two days are the same, the new births in spring time and the change in nature all around us… As much as it always rains in Ireland, it’s still better than a drought.”

I am 3rd generation beef farming and 1st generation sheep farming. I hope my daughter Aoibhinn enjoys farming as much as I do!

“Farming allows me to work outside in nature, and gives me the freedom to determine my own working hours, which I love. It also has allowed our children to grow up around animals and working with the land, which has helped to teach them many important life lessons. I grew up farming sheep in the mountains of Lugnaquilla, Co. Wicklow with my father, and my family have been farming this land for many generations. Since starting my own family, we have kept Purebred Blue Faced Leicester sheep in Eadestown, Co. Kildare, along with a larger flock of Llyen ewes. Buying premium quality bloodstock to produce the best quality of wool has always been a priority for us. Working with Lionel from Ériu to produce top quality Irish wool produce has been an absolute pleasure, and we hope to continue doing so into the future”

Peter’s favourite parts of farming are picking through the stock and going to sales, he also loves ensuring the health for his flock through the dosing and vaccination process. He loves that his occupation is farming the land and being in nature, walking the fields and hills all around. His daughter’s name is Nicole and helps on the farm especially at shearing time as pictured here.

Sean is a 5th generation farmer of a dairy and sheep farm at the foot of the stunning Blackstairs Mountains in Carlow

“My flock was established many years ago. I have a passion for sheep all my life. My ewes are all homebred, keeping my own replacements & I source rams from top bloodlines so it is basically a closed flock apart from the rams that are needed. They are reared naturally on grass with the minimum of meal so tend to thrive well when I sell them on to my customers.” Susan is also a human and animal energy healer and often works on her animals on the farm. “I started breeding Bluefaced Leicesters in 1985 and have had great success in the show ring and achieved some great sales for my sheep over the years. I am the 4th generation of farmers and hopefully it will continue into the future”

They love farming as every day is different. They are the 5th generation of Fitzmaurice’s farming this land.
